My name is Kacey Deamer. I’m a senior journalism and environmental studies double major at Ithaca College with a focus area in science and environmental education through mass communication. I’m the online editor for The Ithacan, Ithaca College’s award-winning newspaper, and co-editor of Buzzsaw Magazine, the college’s independent magazine.
For the past four years I’ve reported on the environment, sustainability, science and general human nature stories for Buzzsaw Magazine and The Ithacan. I’ve also held multiple internships, most recently with Mother Jones, within this reporting niche.
In the fall of 2012 I started work with the Roy H. Park School of Communication’s Dean’s Office to take over a grant from the Ford Foundation and re-imagine the Media Institute on Climate Change. Renamed the Media Alliance for People and the Planet, I now act as president of MAPP and am working to establish it not only as a student organization but also a resource for media literacy research of environmental issues.
